Religare

The men shouldered the giant statue
Of the Elephant God with sweet saffron
Amid unruly rains at dusk
Bells fill the silence between patters and songs
Fire fills the chills between human sweat
One man announces another prayer finished
For others to scurry onto the street
Halted traffic for dancing, claps and embraces
So many faces, so many smiles
More men to offer their shoulders
Drums and sweets
More dances and more embraces
Wishing each other "Eid Mubarak"
